This may need to be taken over to Cigar Lounge or whatever but i am effing furious that the political mishandling of Iraq for the last several years has returned a city that I personally shed and spilled blood in has been returned to a state far worse than when I arrived.
I deployed to Ramadia, Iraq - the capital of Al Anbar province - in 2005. I fought in the streets and shared in a mission to create a peaceful environment for the first Iraqi election. (This was prior to the Paul Bremmer dismantling all of the Iraqi infrastructure) This city, in a 7 month time-frame, went from total infestation via foreign Jihadists to a prosperous city rebuilding it's culture everyday.
I am sick and tired of elected officials creating a monumental fuck up in other coutnries at the behest of the reputation and legacy of the military.
Oppos, I need some fun Land Rover/McLaren/Focus RS gifs for cheering up and calming down. It seriously upsets me that civilians are getting killed by ISIS in a place I worked hard to make safer and better for them.

ISIS is like a custom brew of things that are worth hating, and I certainly don't have the skin in the game that you have so I can't even imagine how much that pisses you off.

Last one isn't a gif, just a beautiful beast.

Without having gone there and no first hand knowledge, I kind of believe Iraq was better off under Saddam. Yeah all his people hated him but Iraq was definitely in better shape and if the people of Iraq would have participated in the Arab spring I'm sure a better government would be present there at this time instead of this disjointed thing that exists now.
I also believe that ISIS's growth would have been a lot slower because Saddam would've just hung everybody out in public.

This is a slap in the face akin to all of the Vietnam vets who did the same, except now the American people at least give you the courtesy of a "Thank you for your service" before they say "Geez, you barbarian, will you just go and die somewhere so I don;t have to think about or see you".

.....Sadam's influence is debatable. Mostly because we had loyal officials in place to take over as soon as we declared victory, but the State Department and much of Congress were lobbied to extend the conflict several more years.

Y'know, when I left Mosul, it was one of the more stable parts of that country. Makes me sick to see everything we did didn't mean a drop of piss in the long run.

That's what we get for having politicians and not leaders

Ugh. I'm sorry, man...
I remember the day of the Iraqi election. It was so hopeful, the women holding up their purple-stained fingers. I'll also never forget that the top story on CNN that day was about the Jackson trial. Pretty sure that's the day I lost my last shred of respect for that "news" organization.

This is so true it hurts my brain. People forget the difference between a leader and a boss. These clowns running the place lack leadership. They're too worried about politics to be bothered to lead.
By the way, a million thanks to you and the men and women you served with. You guys did a great job, despite the bullshit back home. Sorry they broke Iraq after you busted ass to fix it. I'd like to think we all learned something from this situation, but you and I both know we didn't.
